Collection: William Wright
William’s adolescence was spent in quintessential small town settings, nestled in the expansiveness of West Central Texas. His ceramic work is based on the intersection of utilitarian forms inspired by this rural Texas upbringing, exploration of ceramic science and techniques, and contemporary aesthetics.
William attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, TX before receiving his Masters of Fine Arts in Ceramics at the University of North Texas in Denton, TX in 2015. Since then he has taught with multiple Colleges and High Schools in Texas and New Mexico.
He works in mid- to high-fire temperature ranges, with both electric and atmospheric firing methods. In 2020, he built a cross-draft wood kiln in Chico, TX that was used as an educational tool for those in the community interested in ceramics. The kiln also provided the opportunity to combine William’s current aesthetic explorations with his interest in wood- and salt-fired traditions from Japan, Europe, and the Eastern US.
Since 2023 William has been applying his teaching and making skills as a part of ceramics programs in West Texas and New Mexico, and started teaching full-time at Eastern New Mexico University in the Fall of 2025.
