Two-Day Workshop with Chicago Artist Laura Williams
Tuesday October 7th and Wednesday October 8th: 5pm - 9pm.
Join Chicago artist Laura Williams for a two-day workshop exploring hand-building and surface design.
Day One introduces pinching and coiling techniques to create playful, one-of-a-kind vessels.
Day Two focuses on decorating forms with terra sigillata and underglazes, emphasizing how surface enhances structure.
All skill levels are welcome to students 18+. Clay and firing are provided by the studio; participants should bring their own tools and sketch books.
Laura studied ceramics at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Originally from the UK, Laura has spent the last 10+ years deep in the ceramics world, mixing her own production work with instruction, traveling workshops, and community building.
Laura’s body of work is both neatly polished as well as wildly colorful & expressive. Her forms are a collection of bright and playful wares, highlighting a conversation between the clay, color, and form. Laura often describes “playing in her studio”, as she illustrates designs onto her pieces using a strong mix of terra sigillata, underglaze, and underglaze pencil.
